WEEK SIX

THE OVERFLOW
OF HOPE

Devotional Reading
Our hope overflows when we trust in God. It’s easy to dismiss hope as a superficial feeling or temporary state of positivity. But the scriptural evidence is clear; hope is a necessary practice in the believer’s walk with Christ. In Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV), we see that unwavering hope is a key ingredient to a brighter future. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Hope is a gift and a choice. As you look to the new year ahead, think about what choosing a life of hope – a life of confident expectation in God’s promises – would do for your faith, your family and your life. What would it look like to wake up every morning looking forward to seeing God’s faithfulness in the little moments? To go to bed every night at peace and in gratitude of his love for you? Days full of hope makes for a hope filled year. Be encouraged to make this a year of hope.

Scripture Reading
[Romans 15:13 NKJV] "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

Prayer
Heavenly Father, we marvel at your love and faithfulness toward us. Thank you for giving us a future and a hope. Your Word says in Ephesians 1:18 that you have given us a glorious inheritance so that we may know what is the hope in which you have called us. We declare that in the new year we will experience the fullness of our hope in Christ Jesus. We will fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal (2 Corinthians 4:18). We choose to be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer (Romans 12:12). In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Reflection Questions
  • What does it mean to overflow in hope?
  • When was the last time you placed your hope in Jesus? What happened?
  • Which area of your life could you trust God with more?

Take Action
Reflect on this past year. Write down 3-5 experiences you’ve had that evidence God’s faithfulness in your life. Next, write down 3-5 goals you would like to accomplish in 2022. Select a scripture for each goal to remind yourself of God’s promises.
