WEEK TWO

HIS PROMISE
OF PEACE

Devotional Reading
In the world we live in today, peace is priceless. God knew we would need the peace that only Jesus could bring to us. Peace between us and our Father. Peace to combat our struggles. Peace to calm our raging hearts. Peace to our mind, will and emotions. Peace to navigate life and all its choices. Peace in the face of this world. That is why God gave us his Word. So that we might familiarize ourselves with the source of our peace.

As Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” [John 16:33 NKJV] When we truly believe that one of the greatest aspects of our relationship with Jesus is that He is in control, and we are not, we will experience peace. Peace protects us and reminds that our Great Shepherd is leading the way, just as He is supposed to do. We have no reason to fear, only to rest in Him and know we can be at peace.

Scripture Reading
[Isaiah 53:3-5 NKJV] 3 He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. 4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. (We encourage you to read the full chapter of Isaiah 53)

Candle Lighting
Relight the candle of Hope, and then light the candle of Peace. Choose one person to relight the first candle, and as you light the second candle of Peace give thanks for all the ways that God has restored your peace. Take a moment to worship the Savior for the peace that His sacrifice purchased for you. Because of Jesus, you have peace with God and the ability to walk in peace with one another.

Prayer
Lord, thank you for being our peace! Your word tells us that we have no reason to fear, doubt or worry. You are for us, so nothing can be against us. You are greater than any threat we face, and we have the comfort of knowing you will never leave us nor forsake us. Therefore, we have every reason to be at peace! Lord, we thank you that our hearts are settled knowing that you are totally and completely in control. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
